Welcome to Murphy, North Carolina! Please take a minute and let us tell you about ourselves.

Murphy, North Carolina, is the county seat of Cherokee County located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. Murphy is an old town with its origin dating back to 1839. Downtown is beautiful with tree lined streets and many historic buildings restored to their original state. Murphy has restaurants, many unique shops, and other interesting establishments all within walking distance in the heart of town.

Recreational activities are unlimited from local trout streams to mountain biking. Hiwassee Lake is considered one of the most beautiful in the state. Murphy offers something for every sports enthusiast.

If you are looking for a beautiful small town in the mountains, look no further. Murphy with its population of 1700 people resembles a Norman Rockwell painting. It is indeed, small town life at the very best. We look forward to seeing you!

I've added the Murphy River Walk to the website! This is just the beginning for the walk. I've got more pictures and features to come!

New Sites have been added to our Local Links page. We have also updated our menus to include a link to a collaboration of local shops in the downtown Murphy area.

We have updated the Events page with the Annual Tree Lighting and have added forms for the 2009 Christmas parade application. We have provided the form in both Word format and Adobe Reader.
